***Assistant District Attorney***
There are currently two positions available for Assistant District Attorney in the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, located in Canton, New York. Applicants must possess superior oral and written communication skills, strong character and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep interest in criminal law, a desire to handle progressively more complicated cases, and a passion for courtroom litigation. Experience in Criminal Law is preferred but not required.
Qualifications: Candidate must be admitted to and in good standing with the New York State Bar. If hired, Candidate must establish residence in St. Lawrence County within 30 days of appointment.
Salary: $81,152.00 to start with full benefit package.

*** Welfare fraud investigator***
This position exists in the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office and reports directly to the District Attorney and/or Chief Confidential Investigator. An employee of this class conducts investigations relating to criminal activities and prepares reports on such cases for the District Attorney. This is specialized investigative work dealing with cases with which the District Attorney is concerned. The work involves the investigation of crimes, interrogation of suspects and witnesses, gathering evidence and related work as required. Oftentimes the work is performed to assemble evidence to assist in the presentation of cases to a grand jury or at the trial stage. While standard investigative techniques are employed in accordance with policies outlined by the District Attorney, the employee exercises considerable independent judgment in the course of his/her duties. The employee may also be directed to oversee personnel from other agencies in specific operations and investigative interns. The incumbent must be able to work independently and at times may be required to be available and on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The incumbent does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma, or possession of an Individual Education Plan diploma and seven (7) years of full-time paid police experience within the past ten (10) years. Experience shall include working knowledge and training in standard investigative techniques and the basic principles of undercover and narcotics investigations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently certified in New York State as a Police Officer, through the Bureau for Municipal Police or the New York State Police or completed the Criminal Investigator Training Program through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
- Firearms certification through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) or through the federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act.
