Objective

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and cleaning of buildings, grounds, and parking lots at the County Office Complex in Canton, Including the Human Services Center on State Highway 310 and the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility located at 17 Commerce Lane.


Highlights of Our Department

  • St. Lawrence County Buildings & Grounds Department employs 29 full-time employees.  
  • We are staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Building Maintenance Staff is on duty from 7 a.m. – 11 p.m. , 7 days per week.
  • Custodial Staff is on duty during the evening and overnight hours.

Responsibilities

  • Building Maintenance Staff performs HVAC, general plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, and mechanical repairs, as well as smaller renovation projects.
  • Groundskeepers are responsible for maintaining lawns and parking lots for all buildings, snow removal, and the cemetery at the Old County Home site.
  • Custodial staff is responsible for cleaning of our buildings, moving furniture and office equipment, and light maintenance tasks.
  • The department maintains all of the following County buildings and grounds totaling 332,861 square feet:

    • Court House
    • Public Safety Complex
    • Harold B. Smith Building (DSS)
    • DSS Annex Building
    • Human Services Building
    • Old St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility
    • New St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility
    • Records Warehouse
    • Pearl Street Property
    • Surrogate Building
