COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Reminders

St. Lawrence County COVID-19 Isolation and Quarantine Reminders

Canton, NY— The St. Lawrence County Public Health Department (SLCPHD) ended its COVID-19 case investigation program on June 30th, 2022. SLCPHD no longer contacts individuals who test positive for COVID-19. Those who test positive for COVID-19 with a lab-confirmed test will still be notified of their result by the place where they were tested, but they no longer receive a phone call from a State or County case investigator or contact tracer.

Please continue to report all positive home tests to the SLCPHD, using the online form found on our website https://stlawco.org/Departments/PublicHealth. If you are unable to access the online form, please call the department during business hours, Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm, and we will assist you.

If you test positive for COVID-19 and are symptomatic, please contact your healthcare provider to discuss your symptoms and next steps. Treatment may be available for older adults and those who are at high risk of getting very sick from COVID-19.

Those who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, are still expected to follow New York State’s isolation guidelines:

  • Isolate for at least 5 days, with Day 0 being the date your symptoms started or the date you were tested if you do not have symptoms.
  • Monitor your symptoms. Call your healthcare provider if symptoms worsen or if you have questions regarding your symptoms.
  • Avoid close contact with others in your household.
  • Isolation ends after 5 full days IF you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and your other symptoms have improved.
  • After you leave isolation, you must continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days. This decreases the risk small risk of transmission to others.
  • If you need isolation orders for work or school, obtain an AFFIRMATION OF ISOLATION from NYSDOH. This can also be found on the St. Lawrence County Public Health website.

Those who have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 should follow New York State’s quarantine guidelines:

  • You DO NOT need to quarantine if you:
    • Are 12 years or older and have received all recommended vaccine doses, including boosters when eligible.
    • Are ages 5-11 years and completed the primary series of COVID-19 vaccines.
    • Had confirmed COVID-19 within the last 90 days.

  • You should quarantine if you:
    • Are 12 years or older and completed the primary series of vaccines but have not received a booster when eligible. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ATTENDING SCHOOL, (fully vaccinated individuals who were exposed may still attend school).
    • You received the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine over 2 months ago and have not received a recommended booster shot.
    • You are not vaccinated.

  • If you need quarantine orders for work or school, obtain an AFFIRMATION OF QUARANTINE from NYSDOH. This can also be found on the St. Lawrence County Public Health Website.
