Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Directors

Pursuant to the Soil and Water Conservation Districts Law, Chapter 9-B of the Consolidated Laws, the Board of Directors was created.  This Board shall advise the Board of Legislators on provisions for the conservation of the soil and water resources of the State, for the improvement of the water quality, for the control and prevention of soil erosion, for the prevention of floodwater and sediment damages, and for furthering the conservation, development, utilization and disposal of water, pollution, assist in the control of floods, assist in the drainage and irrigation of agricultural lands, prevent impairment of dams and reservoirs, assist in maintaining the navigability of rivers and harbors, preserve wildlife, protect the tax base, protect public lands and protect and promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the people of this State.

Membership shall include five (5) members who will be appointed by the Board of Legislators.  It shall consist of two (2) members from the County Board of Legislators and three (3) members who are not members of the Board of Legislators but two (2) of which are practical farmers.  One (1) farmer shall be appointed from a list submitted by the county grange and one (1) farmer shall be appointed from a list submitted by the farm bureau.  The fifth member shall be appointed from the County at large and shall represent the urban, suburban and rural non-farm landownership interest.  At the option of the Board of Legislators, the Board of Directors can be expanded to seven (7) members, the remaining two (2) members shall be residents of the County and at least one (1) shall be a practical farmer.

Term: Three years.  Legislators are appointed to one-year terms.
